James and Dr. Nakia Redmon are the founders of Fighting for Marriages, a faith-centered marriage ministry dedicated to helping couples build stronger marriages. Together, they believe that healthy marriages strengthen families, healthy families strengthen churches, and strong churches impact the Kingdom of God.

Married since 2009, James and Nakia are the proud parents of two children, Trey and London, and call Madison, Alabama, home. Although James grew up in North Alabama and Nakia was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, their story began in an unexpected place. They met in 2003 while serving as government interns at Red River Army Depot in Texarkana, Texas. Friends first, they eventually began dating, became engaged in 2008, and were married the following summer.

Not long after welcoming their first child, their marriage faced its greatest challenge. Just two years into marriage, they found themselves on the brink of divorce.

But God had another plan.

Instead of allowing their story to end in heartbreak, God used one of the most difficult seasons of their lives to rebuild their marriage. Through faith and a commitment to fight for one another, their marriage was restored. What once felt like their greatest failure became the very foundation of the ministry they lead today.

Determined that their pain would not be wasted, Nakia shared their story in her marriage memoir, I'll Fight for My Man. What began as a personal testimony soon grew into a calling to encourage other couples that no marriage is beyond hope when both spouses are willing to fight for it.

Today, James and Nakia lead Fighting for Marriages through immersive couples’ retreats, marriage conferences, and other marriage experiences that encourage couples to intentionally invest in their relationship. Their retreats are known for being more than educational—they are carefully designed experiences. Every discussion, activity, meal, and moment is created with one goal in mind: helping couples build stronger marriages.

James brings authenticity, wisdom, and a calming presence that encourages men to engage openly, while Nakia combines her passion for teaching, leadership, and storytelling to create meaningful experiences that inspire lasting change. Together, they create an environment where couples feel welcomed, challenged, encouraged, and never judged.

Their mission is simple:

To help couples fight for their marriages—not just to survive, but to flourish.

Together, they are committed to Building Marriages. Strengthening the Kingdom. One couple at a time…one brick at a time.
